The Adam Project

The Adam Project: Directed by Shawn Levy. With Ryan Reynolds, Walker Scobell, Mark Ruffalo, Jennifer Garner. After accidentally crash-landing in 2022, time-traveling fighter pilot Adam Reed teams up with his 12-year-old self for a mission to save the future. “Straight to Netflix” can mean many things, usually a movie that would have just barely made it’s budget back in theaters, but this “Adam Project” film turned out to be better than I was expecting, with the interactions between Walker Scobell and Ryan Reynolds being surprisingly earnest and seemingly legitimately emotional. It helps that there’s some eye popping spaceship scenes with...

The Void Within: The Cluster Saga Book One eBook : Tkacz, Carlos R.: Kindle Store

The 25th century. Humanity has discovered a new form of energy, the Source, derived from the very basis of life itself. Using this power to travel instantaneously through space, humans have spread through their corner of the galaxy and coalesced into two groups: the Coalition and the Inner Cluster. They are held in an uneasy economic and cultural relationship by their reliance on each other, the Coalition with the technology of the Source and the Inner Cluster with the materials to make it a usable form of energy. When rumors of conquest, political undergrounds, and alien contact threaten this balance...

Old Dogs

Old Dogs: Directed by Walt Becker. With John Travolta, Robin Williams, Kelly Preston, Conner Rayburn. Two friends and business partners find their lives turned upside down when strange circumstances lead them to be the temporary guardians of seven year-old twins. Made in 2009, it’s a free spirited movie made right after Travolta’s kid died, and released right after Bernie Mac died from sarcoidosis complications; they both get appropriate dedications in the final credits. An interesting point of fact: they had to shave Robin’s chest for a few scenes of this movie, and considering I know how hairy that guy is,...

The Villain

The Villain: Directed by Hal Needham. With Kirk Douglas, Ann-Margret, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Paul Lynde. Facing hanging, a bank robber makes a deal with the corrupt banker to avoid execution in exchange for a dirty assignment. It’s a stupid story with increasingly ridiculous and contrived plot points, but if you knew that it was a parody / love letter to the WB cartoons from the 1930 like I did, I bet you’d enjoy it much more than if you didn’t. The obvious name here to look for is Arnold’s, it’s only his 7th role and he’s obviously still getting his acting...

cookies, sunsets, cats, college, and beers, name a more iconic combination

Someone got some girlscout cookies!!!  These were the best of the couple boxes we bought We had to go out for some cat food for baby cat, turns out she has a hyperthyroid situation and now we have to push a pill down her throat and give her some super high calorie food so she’ll put some weight back on. After we bought the cat food we went to a Japanese restaurant and had dinner inside the building for only the second time in over 2 years.  it was a good dinner, and this was the sunset we saw on...

Star Wars Technical Journal of the Planet Tatooine

Star Wars Technical Journal of the Planet Tatooine, also styled as “Star Wars Technical Journal Vol. 1”, was the first of three volumes in The Official Star Wars Technical Journal magazine series from Starlog Communications International, Inc. It was published on October 1, 1993. The three volumes were later compiled into the compendium title Star Wars Technical Journal. Volume One was reprinted in July 1994 with a new foil-embossed cover to herald the release of the series’ second and third vol What a fantastic time capsule of Star Wars fandom and quasi canon back story. It was released in 1993,...

My cats sit funny, and there’s a Farm store in town now!

This is the back side of a Farm store, for those of you that have never been, you’re not missing much, it’s just a drive up convenience store. I learned during this trip that they do not sell bud light here. Apparently this is how my cat sits now. Or he’ll sit like this.  He just had a one year birthday on St Pats, so he still has a young man’s spine.  Not be me though, my spine is utter shit. I got a blister from when I raked my yard last week.  The gloves I had sucked, so I...

Wish Dragon

Wish Dragon: Directed by Chris Appelhans. With Will Yun Lee, Jimmy O. Yang, Constance Wu, Natasha Liu Bordizzo. Determined teen Din is longing to reconnect with his childhood best friend when he meets a wish-granting dragon who shows him the magic of possibilities. A heartfelt mix of Disney’s Aladdin and Disney’s animated version of Mulan, the entire cast of this movie appears to be either Chinese or Chinese American, which is fine, but I was surprised that a movie that was so clearly marketed to that audience would go to the lengths that it went to in showing the utter...

The Center Seat: 55 Years of Star Trek

The Center Seat: 55 Years of Star Trek: With Gates McFadden, Marc Cushman, Larry Nemecek, David Gerrold. Chronicles rare and fascinating details of how “Star Trek” began, where it’s been, and how it’s going where no television series has gone before. It’s an eleven episode series of 45 minute longish episodes that go into all the details of the franchise up to about the TNG/DS9/VOY/ENT era with plenty of talking heads from the various series, though not many of the big names showed up for it. It’s interesting if you’ve not seen Trek documentaries before, and it’s still entertaining for...

The Boys Presents: Diabolical

The Boys Presents: Diabolical: With Grey Griffin, Antony Starr, Ben Schwartz, Chris Diamantopoulos. The Boys animated spin-off. Eight unrelated episodes about mostly unknown characters in the same universe that “The Boys” takes place in, there’s a couple extremely good episodes, a couple ok episodes, one that’s just dumb, and a few more that are middle of the road. I’m happy they didn’t make them all connected in some way like “What If…” did. Be warned, there is a significant amount of gore and violence here, though if you’ve seen the live action show, this animated stuff won’t seem out of...
