New costume? Check. Superhero mentor? Check. Government conspiracy to cover up the End of the World? Uh… check? Luke Gillis is barely dragging himself through college. Of course, if he wrote term papers the way he thrashed bank robbers, he’d probably be a doctor by now. His mentor is the Miracle Worker. Yes, that Miracle Worker. Some say he’s more outlaw than hero, but beggars can’t be choosers. Still, Luke must be doing something right. The U.S. Army has invited his alter ego–the dashing speedster Spitball–on a top-secret mission. With the country’s premier superhero team missing-in-action, this could be his...
I pre-ordered this back in January I think and it finally made it’s way to me back in August and I’m just now posting about it because I’ve honestly been too busy listening to it to bother with talking about it. It’s among one of the best soundtrack of my lifetime and I’m going to get plenty of enjoyment out of having this double album. I also have it digitally though, so I’ll likely listen to that more than anything else, but this album sure looks good up on my shelf.
Lego Batman: The Movie – DC Super Heroes Unite: Directed by Jon Burton. With Clancy Brown, Troy Baker, Christopher Corey Smith, Charlie Schlatter. When the Joker and Lex Luthor form an alliance, Batman must team up with the Justice League in order to stop them. This came in a weird movie bundle of like 30 animated DC movies that was being sold for just $10 a few months back on Vudu and I’m just now getting around to watching anything from the bundle. I think I’ve actually seen this one in the past, as the story was familiar. Many of...
Lara Croft: Tomb Raider: Directed by Simon West. With Angelina Jolie, Jon Voight, Iain Glen, Noah Taylor. Video game adventurer Lara Croft comes to life in a movie where she races against time and villains to recover powerful ancient artifacts. Received free in this month’s Universal rewards program, it’s a fun movie that looks pretty good in 4k/hdr. Buy On Amazon!
Foundation: Created by Josh Friedman, David S. Goyer. With Jared Harris, Lou Llobell, Leah Harvey, Terrence Mann. A complex saga of humans scattered on planets throughout the galaxy all living under the rule of the Galactic Empire. There’s some really amazing space stuff happening in this second season and they’ve worked their way around the obvious issues of adapting a book series set over the span of thousands of years to the realities of doing a long form television show with actors that need to be contracted for more than just a couple episodes. They’ve luckily avoided the weird shift...
Partner up with your friend online and test your friendship by solving puzzles together in an abandoned amusement park. Work together to overcome brain-teasing challenges in this standalone We Were Here experience. I was shocked at how much fun I had in this free game. It has the clear indications of being a demo, but the three puzzles we were able to do were fun to do and were a pleasure to figure out. Buy On Amazon!
After witnessing his parents’ death, Bruce learns the art of fighting to confront injustice. When he returns to Gotham as Batman, he must stop a secret society that intends to destroy the city. An exceptionally long time ago I bought two LEGO Batmobiles from Target (I think it was over a year ago!), they were the cars from the 2022 Film and the tumblr from Batman Begins. I built the 2022 car while watching the second LEGO film, and got most of the Tumblr done during this film, which still holds up as a serious story of an emotionally broken...
A special bond develops between plus-sized inflatable robot Baymax and prodigy Hiro Hamada, who together team up with a group of friends to form a band of high-tech heroes. One more entry for my Stan Lee collection, this 4k disk was free on the Disney Rewards page, so I scooped it up as soon as I saw it. It’s still a fun movie and has a typical “dead family” story line that Disney loves to use for plot development. Buy On Amazon!
It’s been five years since everything was awesome and the citizens are facing a huge new threat: Lego Duplo invaders from outer space, wrecking everything faster than they can rebuild. This was a pretty ok sequel to the first LEGO Movie, there’s a particular energy that carries on from the first but I fear that the special spark that’s required for the movie to be fully appealing was diminished in their rush to capture lightening in the bottle after the huge success of the first film. The puns are all a bit forced and the “in lego” story didn’t really...
Had a good birthday weekend filled with tons of fun activities: Saturday Picked up a prescription Mani/Pedi with the wife Pizza Grocery store for fizzy drinks and cake Comic shop to get boxes, but accidentally also selected and bought a Stan Lee Funko Pop Nap Movie at home Sunday The LEGO Movie was back in theaters, so went with the wife to see it again Dinner at Essence of India, one of the finest restaurants in town My wife gave me a LEGO batmobile for my birthday, so I put that together while watching the Batman film that the car...
