War of the Worlds: Created by Howard Overman. With Léa Drucker, Gabriel Byrne, Bayo Gbadamosi, Ty Tennant. Set in contemporary France, this Anglo-French reimagining of H. G. Wells’ classic in the style of Walking Dead follows pockets of survivors forced to team up after an apocalyptic extra-terrestrial strike. While it had a satisfying ending, I really struggled to get through this final season, as I found the science and the story to be labored past the point of believability. Black holes in the Earth’s atmosphere, alternate realities, space stations, and robot dogs were all just set pieces in a story...
2585 Clara Kee Blvd Tallahassee FL 32303 This is the second park that we went to last Saturday and is a much more substantial bit of walking, though I think we gained a mile or two because we went off the official trail to check out some of the exposed Lake Jackson lakebed. The lake has a neat cycle of filling and draining via a system of sinkholes, so the lake levels can change up to 10 feet every few years. This leads to two different heights that docks and boardwalks are built at and when it’s at it’s low...
1294 Fuller Road Tallahassee FL 32303 I’m going to start logging the different parks in town that me and my wife are checking out every few weeks, if only so I can remember that I went there and maybe what my opinions of them were. In this case, the park is described as: > Located on the southern edge of Lake Jackson and just north of the I-10/ North Monroe Street interchange, the Okeeheepkee Prairie Trail weaves through the 26-acre Okeeheepkee Prairie Park, where visitors can marvel at a breathtaking scenic overlook located near the park entrance. Which is to...
Kong: Skull Island: Directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts. With Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, Brie Larson, John C. Reilly. After the Vietnam war, a team of scientists explores an uncharted island in the Pacific, venturing into the domain of the mighty Kong and must fight to escape a primal Eden. The most recent entry to this giant monster series (Monarch) had some direct references to Skull Island and I swear I couldn’t remember a single thing about the film. I had forgotten nearly everyone that was in it, remembered none of the plot points, and the only thing I honestly remembered...
RoboCop: Directed by José Padilha. With Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Abbie Cornish. In 2028 Detroit, when Alex Murphy, a loving husband, father and good cop, is critically injured in the line of duty, the multinational conglomerate OmniCorp sees their chance for a part-man, part-robot police officer. Saw a couple clips of the film on the TikTok and remembered that I didn’t exactly hate the film but couldn’t remember much about it, so here we are, having watched it again, I now remember why I don’t remember much about it. It does best when it doesn’t lean on the...
The Crew Video Game – A single-player and cooperative driving game that takes place throughout the United States, developed by Ivory Tower. I saw an announcement a few weeks ago that “The Crew” was immediately being delisted from all digital stores and was scheduled for shutdown on March 31, 2024. I vaguely recalled owning the game and was able to find a copy of it on my Uplay account, but just recently saw I also had it on my xbox, which would have been a better experience for me, but only just barely. It’s a great racing game with some...
Gotham Knights: Created by Natalie Abrams, Chad Fiveash, James Patrick Stoteraux. With Oscar Morgan, Olivia Rose Keegan, Navia Ziraili Robinson, Fallon Smythe. Bruce Wayne is murdered and his adopted son forges an alliance with the children of Batman’s enemies. As the city becomes more dangerous, these mismatched fugitives will become its next generation of saviors, known as the Gotham Knights. Only lasted a single season on the tail end of the CW comic book infatuation in early 2023, “Gotham Knights” does what so many other Batman related properties have done, which is to immediately remove the caped crusader from the...
What If…?: With Jeffrey Wright, Terri Douglas, Matthew Wood, Robin Atkin Downes. Exploring pivotal moments from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and turning them on their head, leading the audience into uncharted territory. This is some of the best content from Marvel in the last few years, from the great music, to the fantastic action, to stories and new characters that are both captivating and have a strong future in the franchise. It’s a shame that the the best stuff is animated, but at least we’re getting great stuff still. Buy On Amazon!
Upload: Created by Greg Daniels. With Robbie Amell, Andy Allo, Allegra Edwards, Zainab Johnson. A man is able to choose his own afterlife after his untimely death by having his consciousness uploaded into a virtual world. As he gets used to his new life and befriends his angel (real world handler), questions about his death arise. Continues it’s pattern of being a sophisticated show that’s not taking it’s core concept serious enough for my tastes, but has just enough wit and humor to keep me coming back for more. Humans and elves, dwarves and gnomes, wizards and warriors all live and do business in the thriving, overcrowded port city of Cliff’s End, to say nothing of the tourists and travelers who arrive by land and sea, passing through the metropolis on matters of business or pleasure-or on quests. The hard-working, under-appreciated officers of the Cliff’s End Castle Guard work day and night to maintain law and order as best they can. This volume brings together ten pieces of short fiction-some previously published, some brand-new for this book-featuring the Castle Guard: new cases for Lieutenants Torin ban Wyvald and Danthres...
