“The Toxic Avenger Unrated” Review

When a downtrodden janitor, Winston Gooze, is exposed to a catastrophic toxic accident, he’s transformed into a new kind of hero: The Toxic Avenger. Now, Toxie must rise from outcast to savior, taking on ruthless corporate overlords and corrupt forces who threaten his son, his friends, and his community.

A surprisingly great retelling of a classic story with a modern sensibility and budget of this classically sensible and low budget movie from the 80s. I found it to be as entertaining as the original version of the story that spawned several sequels, but unfortunately I’m not sure we’re ever going to see a sequel to this modern version. I remember it was years ago that the movie was being shown at festivals and it was only extremely recently that it came out. It’s on Hulu, so there’s a low barrier to entry and if you’ve found enjoyment in any of the Troma movies of old, this will likely entertain you too.
