Star Trek: Picard Season 3

Star Trek: Picard: Created by Kirsten Beyer, Michael Chabon, Akiva Goldsman, Alex Kurtzman. With Patrick Stewart, Michelle Hurd, Jeri Ryan, Alison Pill. Follow-up series to Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987) and Star Trek: Nemesis (2002) that centers on Jean-Luc Picard in the next chapter of his life. Season three has come and gone and while it was 100% fan service with a heaping helping of nostalgia, it worked for me in most regards. I still have some issues with the naming of the final ship seen, and it felt silly to have that “old friend” show up in the...

Avatar: The Way of Water

Avatar: The Way of Water: Directed by James Cameron. With Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang. Jake Sully lives with his newfound family formed on the extrasolar moon Pandora. Once a familiar threat returns to finish what was previously started, Jake must work with Neytiri and the army of the Na’vi race to protect their home. This is a much better experience at home, where I have the technology that’s up to the task of showing whatever crazy framerate it is that this movie comes with. The local AMC was pretty bad at that particular task with all...

I’ve lost about 40 pounds and am now under 290!

I’ve been comfortably living my life since high school (1999!) at around 315 – 330 pounds, then a medical thing came up and it turns out that I’m supposed to be like…100 pounds less than that.  So I’ve been on a weight loss “journey” which essentially meant to me that I’m giving up red meat, eating 10 times the amount of veggies than meat, no refined sugar, and I’ve completely dropped coffee from my daily routine.  Honestly that coffee thing was a long time coming because I’m so super sensitive to caffeine, just walking past a pot will wake me...

Ronin Games (Wearing the Cape #5)

PLAYING A DESPERATE GAME.Astra has returned to Chicago and the everyday life of a cape: getting kittens out of trees, training, aiding the city’s emergency first-responders, training, doing public relations events, training, and the occasional superhero v. supervillain fight that threatens to level neighborhoods or at least set them on fire. Then Astra takes a hard hit during a fight and very briefly finds herself somewhere else, somewhere she’s only been before in dreams and in the company of Kitsune, a shapeshifting trickster fox. Astra’s friends learn she is under the increasing influence of an otherworldy realm they know absolutely nothing...

Star Trek: Nemesis

Star Trek: Nemesis: Directed by Stuart Baird. With Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner, LeVar Burton. The Enterprise is diverted to the Romulan homeworld Romulus, supposedly because they want to negotiate a peace treaty. Captain Picard and his crew discover a serious threat to the Federation once Praetor Shinzon plans to attack Earth. I’m not entirely sure why, but this movies has some pretty extreme grain and/or DNR, a distracting amount that I didn’t notice in the other three TNG films that are in the 4k set. Maybe it’s the darker sets or something to do with the way they...

Star Trek: Insurrection

Star Trek: Insurrection: Directed by Jonathan Frakes. With Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner, LeVar Burton. When the crew of the Enterprise learn of a Federation conspiracy against the inhabitants of a unique planet, Captain Picard begins an open rebellion. I believe this is the first Trek film to have CGI ships instead of models and it really shows, the ship work in “First Contact” is so much better than here. The story is nice enough, but as everyone always says, it feels more like a double episode of the series when it was still on TV. There’s not much...

Star Trek: First Contact

Star Trek: First Contact: Directed by Jonathan Frakes. With Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner, LeVar Burton. The Borg travel back in time intent on preventing Earth’s first contact with an alien species. Captain Picard and his crew pursue them to ensure that Zefram Cochrane makes his maiden flight reaching warp speed. I thought ‘Generations’ looked great in 4k, but holy moly ‘First Contact’ is absolutely gorgeous, with every single one of the space scenes looking better than nearly anything that Trek has put out since 1996. The soundtrack is still amazing and imho is the best soundtrack of the...

Star Trek: Generations

Star Trek: Generations: Directed by David Carson. With Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner, LeVar Burton. With the help of long presumed dead Captain Kirk, Captain Picard must stop a deranged scientist willing to murder on a planetary scale in order to enter a space matrix. Finally in 4k and it’s worth every penny that I paid for the four movie set, especially with what’s going on with the Picard TV series this last week. This has always been a fun movie to watch, as it’s the last one with any TOS characters and the first one with any of...

Cats, LEGO, Delicious Snacks, and Chairs

I thought Bella was stuck behind the futon, but turns out that she’s still 90% fluid, so she just poured herself out when she got bored being back there. Sleepy Miles I’m moving this chair out of my office due to my butt hurting on it and Odo decided that he needed to be on top of it.  Turns out that it wasn’t the chair’s fault though, I was pushing myself a little too hard on the treadmill. This is the last one of these that I’ll be eating for a while. They’re delicious but apparently all my numbers are...

Amazon.com: Small Town Heroes (Wearing the Cape #4)

Astra has become one of the most popular Sentinels in Chicago, past scandals notwithstanding, and is now the team leader of the Young Sentinels. And Astra has a dream visit from Kitsune, the odd shapeshifter-thief who precipitated the battle between the Sentinels and Villains Inc. the year before. The dream warns of a fresh disaster, in a town Astra has never seen before and that may not actually exist.Astra’s efforts to find the town from her dream leads...
