Let Him Go

Let Him Go: Directed by Thomas Bezucha. With Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, Kayli Carter, Ryan Bruce. A retired sheriff and his wife, grieving over the death of their son, set out to find their only grandson.

The chemistry between Kevin Costner and Diane Lane is real and palpable on the screen, this is the first time they’ve shared a movie since 2013’s “Man of Steel”, and while they didn’t exactly blow me away in the comic book movie, they definitely did the work for “Let Him Go” which is a standard sounding film but with a few interesting wrinkles to the tried and true formula of looking for a loved one and finding that they’re unable to leave their situation without a large amount of violence. The film is smartly set in the 1960s, so there’s an appropriate level of seclusion to scenes set in a North Dakota town, even when they’re in a diner or clothing store. It’s an emotionally ambitious movie and sticks the landing.
