“Avatar: The Last Airbender” Review

A young boy known as the Avatar must master the four elemental powers to save a world at war — and fight a ruthless enemy bent on stopping him.

The time between the first season and the second is extremely noticeable when the first had a young boy as the avatar and the second opens with a man that’s clearly well into puberty. Everyone else has clearly aged in the years since they filmed the first season, but Momo and Appa haven’t aged a day!

The story is a refinement of the obviously superior cartoon series that came out over 20 years ago and the format jump has done the plot no favors because there’s no time for anything to land before it moves onto the next fast paced event. I did still tear up at a couple scenes with Uncle Iroh, but that might have been from the memory of his song to his song instead the brief hint of the song we got here.

I’s still suggest the series to anyone Avatar curious, just know that there’s a vastly superior version of it out there in cartoon form.
