Remnant II on Steam

Remnant II pits survivors of humanity against new deadly creatures and god-like bosses across terrifying worlds. Play solo or co-op with two other friends to explore the depths of the unknown to stop an evil from destroying reality itself.

My review of this game is overshadowed by the fact that I did not play the single player version of the game at all, so my opinions are shaded by the fact that I had no clue what was going on for most of the levels, had no motivations for my actions in the game, and was greatly confused by many of it’s story elements that showed up in the multiplayer version of the game that I ended up playing with my buddies.

It’s a great “souls like” looter shooter, which is to say, you better be good at dodging and returning fire from gorgeously crafted bullet sponges that can (and will!) kill you in just one or two hits, causing you to replay the same sections over and over again. Once you figure out any particular opponent’s strategy though, it’s easy money. The shooting and game mechanics are all rock solid, the graphics are pretty ok, but I did struggle mightily with my poor gaming laptop and it’s NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060. There was something about the game that would limit it to 5-10 frames per second if I didn’t do a fresh reboot every time I played the game. After a reboot, and playing on 1920×1080 with “potato” quality graphics, I got a solid 30-60 fps, depending on how foggy or sparkly the area was. When it was playing good though, it was a great experience and fun was to be had. Having to jump through all those hoops was a real bummer though.
