“Johnny Eager” Review

Johnny Eager: Directed by Mervyn LeRoy. With Robert Taylor, Lana Turner, Edward Arnold, Van Heflin. The step-daughter of a district attorney falls in love with a gangster on parole who her father originally imprisoned.

They’re definitely dynamite in this story of a bad boy going to the races and getting even worse with an innocent young woman by his side. Glenda Farrell isn’t the main squeeze, much to my chagrin, but it was great to see her in the limited time she had on screen. The story of course is great with some really goofy but enjoyable twists and turns that brought the whole thing to a surprisingly “Hayes Code” approved climax.
