2025 Year in Review

2025 was an absolute whirlwind of changes in my life, from a new job to a new car, to a happy surprise of a pregnancy.  When I first put together the stats for the year in December, I looked back at 2024’s numbers and laughed that I didn’t post until the end of January, but here we are half way through February and I’m just now hitting publish on this one.

So first, some numbers!

36 books reviewed

6 games reviewed

89 movies reviewed

42 television series reviewed

All of these numbers are in line with 2024 with the exception of the movie count, which is a massive reduction from prior years, but nearly 4 months of the year were taken up by nearly 100% of my life being dedicated to specific non-sitting down activities.  First of which was a new job as an honest to goodness Project Manager for the State of Florida working on an absolutely massive project.  I’m a small cog in a very big machine, but I absolutely love my team and the work I’m doing is fulfilling and enjoyable.  I also started another LLC, ComicCovers.com so if you need any comic book supplies, head there and buy from me!

I also went to Shore Leave, likely for the last time for the foreseeable future.  It was good to see it was the same great show, I bought some really fun books, and I got to experience it with my wife, who was slightly pregnant at the time.

Speaking of the baby, he’s here now, he’s gorgeous, and it’s everything I could have hoped for.  Getting him here was a journey in of itself, we had some terrible carpets in the house, so we had to redo the floors.  It was a nightmare that I’ve written previously about, but man I would not wish that series of events on anyone.  We also had to get some birthing classes, childcare classes, and financial situations to figure out.  Part of it was that we had purchased a brand new car just a few weeks prior to knowing about our incoming baby.  It was to replace my wife’s barely functional 15 year old car. It’s a great new car, very roomie, and very safe, but we made the smart decision to take an offer of paying it off in 3 years for a 0.03% APR.  We’ll ultimately pay about 300 bucks in interest on the very expensive car, but it means the car is costing the same as our house mortgage.  Only 24 months to go!  That combined with the flooring and we don’t currently have the finances in place for day care for the kid, but that’s a temporary situation and one that will be fixed within an appropriate time frame that we’re not going to have many struggles.

A big thing for me personally in 2025 was that I was published in Star Trek Family’s magazine “Engage” Issue #8 with a look back at Star Trek author Peter David and the work he did for the franchise.
