“Wonder Man” Review

Wonder Man: Created by Destin Daniel Cretton, Andrew Guest. With Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Ben Kingsley, Arian Moayed, X Mayo. Hollywood actor Simon Williams is thrust into the world of superheroes as he gets powers of his own, and becomes the new superhero Wonder Man.

It’s difficult to explain how much I enjoyed this show, but I hesitate to really pump it up. It’s not going to be for everyone and if you’ve really really enjoyed the standard MCU movie format of 2 hours of moderatly interesting plot followed by 45-60 minutes of a cgi battle for the third art, this isn’t going to be your jam. I think there’s maybe 4 scenes with super powers and they’re not really the main focus of this story. What is the main point of this series is a literally love letter to Hollywood and the struggle that people go through to find acceptance in a world that has little time for them. It’s a shockingly heartfelt bromance that has some of the best cinematography of any MCU project to date. To be clear, I love it because of how artsy fartsy it ends up being, so if you’ve wanting to see what a true arthouse MCU project can look like, here it is.
