The Crazies (1973)
One of Romero’s few movies that doesn’t have much to do with zombies, though I guess you might consider the ‘crazies’ to be slightly zombie like, but I personally do not. They’re crazes, not zombies. It’s a movie that could easily be made today with only practical effects that aren’t very good, but the story itself of a town going mad at the idea of martial law, the lack of accountability of a government program gone wrong, and absolutely no one telling the truth to the people that would be most affected by the government’s actions, well that’s something that’s topical for a good long while.
I was halfway expecting to see a nuclear bomb in the film, but alas, no nukes, but there was a pretty boss evacuation scene with gratuitous nudity.
