Snake Eyes

Snake Eyes: Directed by Robert Schwentke. With Henry Golding, Andrew Koji, Haruka Abe, Takehiro Hira. A G.I. Joe spin-off centered around the character of Snake Eyes.

Interesting sound track, at first I wasn’t a fan, but it really grew on me, much like the rest of the film. I was ready for it to be a bad film, afterall they’re using the same title choices a X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and there was a choice made to change the race of snake eyes, which I’m always suspicious of. Sometimes it works as race isn’t a core part of a character (Nick Fury’s a great example), but sometimes the character is a white guy in the US military in a foreign country and finds a home with a group of Ninjas, then gets his face blown off so he has to wear a helmet all the time. Fortunately for Snakes, there’s no face melting scenes, but everything else in the movie just straight up works. The actor playing Snakes is Henry Golding, who if you just glance at him in a few scenes much like Karl Urban, with some acting chops to go with the looks.

I’ve heard the film didn’t do as well as the studio had liked, but honestly this is a good movie that I’ll likely seen again sometime in the future, particularly if they do more GI Joe Origin films.
