Written in 1963, this is the kind of hard science fiction that I grew up on and have a fond nostalgia for. There’s a point about 1/3 of the way through that I thought the book had lost the thread and was going off the rails when Enoch offers to “crack an egg in the coffee” for an incoming visitor, which I assumed was a terribly thought up concept, but it turns out to be fascinatingly true!. I think I’ll even try this one day when I’m brave enough to waste a couple eggs.

The rest of the story is a great bit of fiction with a well built but small cast of characters that really did it for me.
