Directed by Ron Underwood. With Billy Crystal, Jack Palance, Daniel Stern, Bruno Kirby. On the verge of turning 40, an unhappy Manhattan yuppie is roped into joining his two friends on a cattle drive in the southwest.
There’s something jarring about watching a man several years younger than me freaking out about turning 40, as my own 40th birthday happened during the covid-19 pandemic I had other things to occupy my mind, the fact that I’m at my age and still haven’t managed to hit a couple major life goals is weighing heavily.
Not heavily enough to go out to a tourist trap cattle drive with a hard working, hard smoking, and hard drinking team of cowboys. Billy Crystal was at the top of his game with his franchise, and I’m happy to have finally watched this on HBO Max, a service that will quickly no longer be a thing in my house due to the lack of 4k content on it.
