Directed by Neil Marshall. With David Harbour, Milla Jovovich, Ian McShane, Sasha Lane. Based on the graphic novels by Mike Mignola, Hellboy, caught between the worlds of the supernatural and human, battles an ancient sorceress bent on revenge.
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this movie, from all indications, it was supposed to be a mess, but it ended up being a good movie that didn’t have much of a point. With all due respect to David Harbour, this wasn’t a role that anyone expected anyone but Ron Perlman to play. Perlman’s version of Hellboy felt like a much older dude in his movies, whereas Harbours feels like a late teen, it’s difficult to really pin down an age due to the heavy makeup and the fact the character is literally a demon, so does age even apply?
Regardless, it’s a movie no one was asking for, but I’m happy we got.
